St.Gerry’s was founded by Dean to share the delectable joy of Loukoumades (hand-made Greek doughnuts) with Australians. Beyond their three stores, you can enjoy St.Gerry’s at Victoria’s largest events, markets and private functions such as F1 Grand Prix, Moomba and weddings.
In addition to creating the Greek doughnut craze in Australia, St.Gerry’s is committed to minimising its impact and has collaborated with Closed Loop to develop a more sustainable food packaging option for their customers.
The objective
A more sustainable packaging option
Dean aimed to find food packaging that was cost-effective and more sustainable than his current food trays. Our Closed Loop food packaging solution has helped St.Gerry’s:
- reduce food packaging waste
- provide recyclable food packaging to customers
- reduce serving time; the previous packaging (a Kraft container with greaseproof paper) was time-consuming to put together, especially during large events and festivals
- simplify processes through providing one product for multiple purposes
- create uniformity across all St.Gerry’s venues and food trucks
The solution
A unique, custom-made food packaging tray
Closed Loop collaborated with St.Gerry’s to create a custom tray that:
- acts as both tray and lid, eliminating the need for separate products
- is more cost effective
- absorbs oil and sauces, creating a mess-free experience for consumers
- eliminates the need for an additional greaseproof paper
- can be recycled in your kerbside recycling bins (if there is no food contamination)
- can be home composted (if there is food contamination)
- create uniformity across all St.Gerry’s venues and food trucks
