As a leader in food, the programme is heavily committed to food sustainability. MasterChef Australia is proud of its long-term association with Second Bite, who ensure that any appropriate surplus ingredients are collected and redistributed to those in need. Surplus food not suitable for redistribution is composted on site using the on-site Closed Loop commercial composter.
Composting at MasterChef Australia
Since 2016, MasterChef Australia have been creating compost for their garden with the Closed Loop commercial composter. In an environment like MasterChef Australia, food ingredients and quantities vary. The composter is able to manage that using a special formula of microbes to compost food waste.
Team members conveniently feed a mix of cooked and raw foods such as small bones, peels and other not fit for donation items through the composter instead of being sent to landfill, which significantly reduces MasterChef Australia’s footprint.
Additionally, during off-season, the composter is switched off and is easily switched back on for the next season.
